Predicted score: Brighton 200 : 132 Paris
Actual score: Brighton 178 : 174 Paris
Only a 4 point win for Brighton despite being ranked 9 places above Paris. This will move Paris up to 25 and Brighton will remain ranked 15th.
Well, this is strange. The actual score is much different from what was predicted, and yet the rankings hardly change?
If you look at the rankings points that Brighton and Paris team have in the last set of released rankings (http://derbydataeurope.com/2014/03/07/european-roller-derby-rankings-feb-2014) You will see that there is quite a big jump in the number of ranking points that each team has compared to the teams around them. This means that although Paris may have gained a lot of rankin points, it’s not really reflected in their position until other teams start moving around them. But you will notice Paris had a massive jump up to 20 after playing Bristol (http://derbydataeurope.com/2014/03/16/bristol-27-vs-paris-26/) which wouldn’t happen if they didn’t have the ranking points from playing Brighton.
Thank you for the explanation 😉
